Stuff

I was thinking about our family blog today - and the reason we started it.  This whole thought process was started because a friend of mine (Susana) forwarded an email about internet addiction and how it is affecting moms (among others).  I can definitely say that I am completely fascinated with the recent ability to connect to the outside world (even when I'm trapped in my home) via the internet (and my blogs).  My children will never know the life I grew up in - with a rotary phone, VCR and cassette player.  It didn't seem like a bad life to me - but I'm sure by comparison to cell phones, DVD's and ipods it would seem a bit scary to the "text generation."  Anyway, I digress...

The reason we started this family blog was so that we could print it out each year and have something to pass on (and laugh about) with our kids (and their kids).  This made me think; am I really telling the whole story or just posting pictures with cute comments?

And to that point, I wanted to tell some stories.

About my K-Bear.....  she has grown up so much in the past few months.  Both Jeff and I are amazed at the concepts and ideas that come out of her mouth on a daily basis.  Of course, there is the funny stuff too.  A little dialogue from our drive home from school:
K: Mommy, can you stop so I can pick my nose?
M: No honey, I can't, we need to get home. (But I was thinking: everyone else picks their nose in moving cars - why can't you?)
K:  (in full Dora sing-song style) Mommy, you can do it, I know you can!
Some random stuff: She sleeps with her Tiger recently (not sure how long that will last), she still takes a nap most days, she loves "chewys" and asks for them hourly, she's practicing "I'm a Little Tea Pot" for her first performance with her preschool class in a couple weeks, she just started ballet, she can do a 24 piece puzzle in less than 5 minutes, her diet consists mostly of cereal, mac & cheese, sandwiches and fruit (with a few other things mixed in), she "doesn't like green stuff" and won't touch lettuce -- and heaven forbid you cook her hot dog or waffles too long and they end up with "crunchies" on them (Daddy!), she has just started dressing up and she absolutely loves her baby brother.

This is a picture of our family breakfast last weekend.  We really go "all-out" when we make breakfast at home.  Mommy made chocolate chip pancakes and Daddy made the cheesy eggs.

I wanted to document this picture that Kylie drew for us.  Daddy challenged her to draw the picture from her puzzle box and I was amazed at how well she did.  The tactile skills and mind of a 3 year old never cease to amaze me.  It's kind of hard to see but you can click on it for a bigger view.  I think the black line on each character is their smile because they all have eyes as well.
Another picture of Kylie and the Jakester.  You'll see a lot of pictures of them in this chair.  It's a quick and easy place to prop up Jake and let Kylie sit with him.  And, it provides a good comparison to watch them grow.  I think he's warming up to the "big-sister" thing.

And Jake - my little man.  I'm falling in love with this guy.  It took me longer to really fall in love with Kylie.  I think many moms out there know what I'm talking about.  Not because she wasn't AWESOME in every way - but because the life change for me was so daunting and overwhelming, it was hard to just enjoy the miracle that she was (and still is).  This time around, although it's very difficult with two, I find myself really loving his little face and his little smile.  He just lights up when he sees me and my heart melts.

That being said, my heart was breaking while I listened to him cry for 20 minutes last night as we let him "cry it out" before falling asleep.  He's been sleeping from about 8pm to 7am for the past week which has been awesome - BUT (there's always a but, right???) we've had to hold the passy in his mouth while standing next to his crib for 5-10 minutes to help him fall asleep.  Now that he is becoming much more aware of the world around him (and of us) we decided this passy game would only get worse.  Plus, he isn't really fond of the passy anyway (not like Kylie was).  So, he fell asleep and woke up happy at 7:15 this morning.  Tonight I put him down and he just looked at me, didn't make a peep and went right to sleep.  BUT, he woke up about 30 minutes later and cried for 20 minutes before drifting back to sleep again.  It's difficult to hear him cry, but it's definitely a protest cry and not an "I'M DYING" cry.   I know we are teaching him a valuable skill that will help him his WHOLE LIFE - falling asleep on your own.  Of course, if he takes after his Daddy, that won't be a problem anyway.  Just put him in a horizontal position and he's OUT!  :)

Enough of my rambling - here's the last picture for this post.

Jake. In the chair. Smiling.

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

The LOVE AFFAIR continues..... (this was from a couple weeks ago).

Kylie and Kyle hold their baby brother (Jake 2 1/2 months) and baby sister (Kate 7 1/2 months) and sing a little tune....

You have to see what happens at the end of the song.... (and please ignore my dorky giggle).

Time to Celebrate!

Let's celebrate because.....
Jake turned 12 weeks old today!  AND - he had the longest sleep period last night (7:45pm-7:20am) followed by a morning nap, afternoon nap, late afternoon cat nap and asleep at 7:45pm again tonight!  BUT (there's always a BUT right?), Kylie peed her pants at least 5 times yesterday and has fallen ill with what seems to be allergies or a cold.  What is that saying.... "you're only ever as happy as your unhappiest child."  -- something like that - so true!

Anyway, I broke out the BIG camera for the Jakester today (for about 15 minutes) to document the special occasion.  Here's some pics.

The whole man - probably close to 15 pounds of him!

His sweet grin...
His eyes are still blue-gray - so we'll see....
We were outside and saying "it's too bright" - so Kylie gave him her shades.  Isn't she sweet????I guess this marks the beginning of "dress-up" with little brother.  He'll be following in his buddy Jack's footsteps!

It's so hard to get a really good sibling picture - especially when one of them can't sit up (or even hold up his head).  But, I loved this one.

And, a comparison picture just to show that the K-Bear was quite the chubster as well.  Jake has almost grown out of the 3-6 month clothes!!!!  I got all these great hand-me-downs for summer and I don't think he's going to fit into anything in a month!  Uggghhh!

Catching up

So much to blog about - so little time!  I'm sitting here during every short snippet of time trying to get things ready to "ramp up" for CCJames Photography in a few weeks - but I wanted to catch up on my personal stuff too.

I'll start with a photo of me and some of my very best friends.  Allyson, Liz, Susana (she had to miss it) and I hosted a baby shower for Cynthia's second little girl (who has already arrived now) and we had a blast.  You can check out her blog for details.  I know I say it a lot - but I'm SO grateful for the friendships I have and I really treasure all the fun times we spend together.

Moving on to last week.....Nana and Amanda came to Atlanta and we had a fun-filled 4-day visit with them that included lots of eating - and even a bowling excursion!  Kylie ADORES her cousin Amanda and I really wish she lived closer.  It really struck me how much they look alike in this picture.

This was Easter Sunday.  Aunt Laurie baked me a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting for my birthday (which is actually tomorrow) and we had an awesome Easter Brunch at her house (including cheesy potatoes - my favorite)!

The kids in their "Sunday Best" before we headed over to Laurie's house.

I thought this was cute - you can really see the size difference - AND, Jake doesn't look as scared as he usually does when Kylie is holding him.

A cute one of the Jakester and his little smirk.  He's really starting to show his personality these days.  He loves to talk, play patty cake, gurgle and smile.  He has been sleeping through the night for about 5 days now and I couldn't be more THRILLED about it!  He goes down sometime between 7pm-9pm and will usually sleep until 7ish.  Nana was a saint and spent the entire day with Jake and Kylie (with Aunt Laurie's help too) on Monday so Jeff and I could have a day off.  It was soooooo relaxing!  We went shopping, had lunch (with cocktails) had a massage and then dinner (with cocktails) -- and no diapers or crying all day!  THANK YOU NANA!!!

Lastly, had to share another dress-up picture with Kylie and Ainslee.  I can already see them in their prom dresses!  :)

Kylie (and the tiger) go to the dentist...

Kylie's first dentist visit went VERY well this morning.  We prepped her by reading the "Dora goes to the Dentist" book for the last week.  She hardly made a wimper - except when they scraped some plaque off her front teeth.  She got a good grade - and the dentist couldn't even tell that Kylie used a passy for 2+ years!  She also said that as long as kids stop sucking on pacifiers and thumbs by the time they are 4 or 5 - the teeth will usually straighten up on their own.  WHEW!

Anyway - she went willingly with the hygienist to take the X-Rays and cooperated so well.  I don't know though - it looks kind of scary to me.

Then, she layed on the exam table for the rest of the visit - clutching to her tiger (and my hand). She looks pretty relaxed doesn't she? They gave her some cool shades to block the BRIGHT LIGHT and then she got to put a coin into a gumball-type machine and get a toy at the end! The funny thing to me is - how did she know how to work the gumball machine?  I've never gotten her anything out of one of those machines (hmmmmmm, maybe it was AUNT LAURIE???)  Or, maybe it's just an inherent kid skill.......????

We went to Dr. Faith Bates, and she was very nice, and SUPER CLOSE, in case anyone was wondering.  :)

The Teapot

She learned this at school.  It's not the alphabet - but we already got that covered!  :)
